Elaine gets diagnosed

Jill lends moral support

After years of assuming Elaine was allergic to peanuts, cashews and pistachios, we finally got her tested. We were right. She is also allergic to hazelnuts, and reacted mildly to almonds. Pecans, walnuts and brazil nuts caused no skin reaction. Her blood is being analyzed now. I don't know if it will indicate other allergies or not.

Interestingly, the doctor told us that 20% of people with peanut allergy outgrow it. Not true for tree nut allergy sufferers. Also, severity of reactions is totally random. A person can have a mild reaction followed by anaphylaxis followed by a mild reaction. Or they can go years without every having a reaction and suddenly have a severe reaction. Some women even react with severe uterine cramping which can only be treated by terbutyl (or whatever that pre-term labor drug is). So . . . she has been lucky so far with only hives and stomach cramping. Epi-pen, here we come.

Tinkerbell and Butterflies

Jill and I spent a few hours at the Desert Museum on Halloween morning. The butterflies were out in full glory. I didn't get any shots of the black and blue ones. I guess they are camera shy.

Beach 2011

Jill loves Olivia (it's on the shirt!)
As usual, we had a great time in Mexico. The kids played wonderfully with their (2nd and 3rd) cousins. The bioluminescence in the water was not as pronounced as last year, but still way cool.
